Philippine Gynecomastia Procedure
Philippine Gynecomastia Procedure
What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition that describes enlarged mammary glands in males and the term was coined from two Greek words, which mean “womanly breast”. Some men tend to develop breasts resembling women’s in their adolescence and old. This, however, is an abnormal occurrence commonly associated with obesity, disease, or metabolic disorders. Infants are also able to develop Gynecomastia, but only due to the female hormones from their mothers. Some 4% to 10% of cases were found to have been caused by drug use as well.
Gynecomastia usually goes away within about six months, especially in prepubertal males. For one that doesn’t, Gynecomastia Surgery is a sure way to get rid of it. After surgery, the once-female-looking breasts become flatter, firmer, and contoured to accurately fit the male profile.
How is Gynecomastia Surgery Performed?
Gynecomastia can be eliminated using Liposuction, Gland Excision, Skin Sculpture, Breast Reduction, or a mix of the procedures for improved results. Surgery is performed in a clinic or hospital, under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
Usually, surgery involves Liposuction where it removes excess fat using a cannula. Unwanted breast tissue is removed via excision techniques, such as ones performed in Breast Reduction. After the procedure, the patient will be bandaged with the option to stay in the hospital or leave. The bandages, along with the stitches, are normally scheduled to be removed after a week. The procedure approximately lasts two hours.
Medications can be used to internally combat the development of Gynecomastia (like testosterone replacements, selective estrogen receptor modulators, and aromatase inhibitors), but the lasting and unsatisfying performances make treatment hardly worthwhile. In addition, they are also universally discouraged to be used treatment.
Risks of Gynecomastia Surgery
There may be bleeding, numbing sensation, infection, adverse effects of anesthesia, and poor healing involved after surgery. Habit smokers are asked to refrain from smoking weeks ahead of the procedure as it interferes with recuperation.
Who Can be Considered for Gynecomastia Surgery?
Individuals who don’t have notable health problems, and are capable of drawing realistic expectations from the procedure and aware of its limitations. Interested persons are advised to consult the doctor first for better understanding of the requirements.
