What is Chin Surgery?

Chin reduction is usually carried out with the patient under general anesthesia, but sometimes local anesthesia plus a sedative is enough.

In this procedure, the surgeon would also make incisions in the mouth or under the chin, where either a wedge of the bone is removed using a drilling device (like a burr) or a part of the bone is slid to reposition and reshape the chin point(s). Incisions will be stitched using either the dissolvable kind or regular kind, depending on where the incision was made, and surgically taped.

Chin augmentation may take anywere from one to four hours, dependending on the complexity of the procedure.

Risks of Chin Surgery

Chin Surgery is subject to complications, like other surgeries, but in the hands of a very experienced specialist, there is nothing to worry about. Complications of this procedure are often minor and rare to occur. Examples include bruising, swelling, bleeding, scarring, infection, numbness, and permanent full loss of sensation in the surgery site. Another complication is the dislocation of the implants, which can be fixed with a revision.
