What is Botox?

Botox, technically called botulinum toxin, has been manufactured to help diminish aging signs by softening frown and forehead lines. Today, Botox is a popular tool in cosmetic treatments and works by injecting the substance into the facial muscles, blocking nerve impulses and cause temporary paralysis that effectively makes wrinkles relax and soften.
How is Botox Peformed?
Botox is performed in a doctor’s office, by injecting a fine needle on particular muscles inducing some minor discomfort in the process. Full effects take around three to seven days to surface and alcohol should be avoided a week before the scheduled treatment. In-take of aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs are advised to be stopped two weeks before treatment so that less bruising would occur.
The procedure only takes minutes and anesthesia is often not required.
Risks of Botox
Complications are minor and fairly short-lived. Most frequently, associated risks include bruising, drooping eyelid, double vision, uneven smile, and inability to close the eyes.

Individuals who aren’t pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease. They should also be capable of drawing realistic expectations from the procedure and aware of its limitations. Botox doesn’t work against all wrinkles, so a consultation with the physician is recommended.
